  The World Wide Web Journal (WWWJ), Springer welcomes submissions to the special issue on "Computational Social Science as the Ultimate Web Intelligence"

#Overview

========

  Computational Social Science (CSS) is the use of Web Intelligence and the tools and technology capable of monitoring, analyzing, diagnosing, and resolving 

day-to-day problems of society. CSS is the development of intelligent systems and solutions to address the critical problems of the society such as poverty and 

hunger, slavery and torture, disease and suffering, and create tools that enable an illiterate person to be as productive as a PhD. Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence must embrace CSS as the next frontier in Web Intelligence and Web Intelligence and WIC need to be at the forefront of inventing that future. Such an 

understanding is proposed and enforced by Professor Dabbala Rajagopal “Raj” Reddy, who has served on the faculty of Stanford and Carnegie Mellon for over 40 

years and received the ACM Turing Award, the highest award in Computer Science, in 1994. He is also praised as a pioneer for “the design and construction of 

large scaled artificial intelligence systems, demonstrating the practical importance and potential commercial impact of artificial intelligence technology.” In a keynote speech delivered at the IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Web Intelligence in Leipzig, Germany on August 24, 2017, Professor Reddy pointed out that “Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence must embrace CSS [Computational Social Science] as the next frontier in Web intelligence.” His vision on Artificial Intelligence and Web Intelligence for creating a truly humane society is both thought-provoking and instrumental to bringing about new revolutions in the two 

related fields.

  In a recent interview with Professor Reddy on March 17, 2018, he once again reinforced the vision on new revolutions in the two fields with a focus on 

Computational Social Science. He raised up a number of interesting questions as an inspiration to the WWW and AI related research communities:

  What is your vision of the future of AI?

  How could we further advance the field of computational social sciences via the route of Web Intelligence?

  What could be the future impact of Web Intelligence?

  How to incorporate Personal Guardian Angels to future Web Intelligence?

  The Special Issue is an effort and a step taken forward to explore the answers to these important and inspiring questions. The Special Issue will discuss 

theories and methodologies from both disciplines of Artificial Intelligence and Web Intelligence with a focus on Computational Social Science. The discussions will encompass the theoretical basis and related tools to formally represent, measure, model, and mine meaningful patterns from large-scale online datasets related to 

AI, WWW, and Computational Social Science.
